About House Staples

House Staples is a curated home website that evaluates and ranks products using an objective technical metric called the House Staples Score. Our goal is to help you find the right products for your home.

Who we are

House Staples covers furniture, storage, cleaning, outdoor, and other household categories. We research products, score them against the same standard, and surface clear recommendations. Ranked guides are part of that work today. More tools and resources will follow.

The House Staples Score

The House Staples Score is our 0–5.0 rating. It is an analytical evaluation of a product’s capacity, materials, and construction standards, independent of crowd-sourced user reviews.

How we score products. We judge whether what the product claims matches how it is built. The checklist shifts by category, but the standard does not. A vacuum that promises whole-home coverage needs real capacity and runtime (or cord length), plus filtration that supports that claim. A dining set sold for four needs table size that can hold four place settings. A hose sold as heavy duty needs material, diameter, and pressure ratings that back the claim, not adjectives.

  • Capacity & dimensions. Size, volume, seating, runtime, load rating, and other measurable limits that define what the product can actually do.
  • Materials & construction. What it is made of, how it is put together, and any stated certifications or weight limits.
  • Ownership realities. Setup, assembly, refill cost, or maintenance when those change whether the product is practical at home.

The score is not a star-review average, a style vote, or a cheap-vs-expensive label. We use it to compare products side by side. Each recommendation shows the same score next to the product, with notes on what we like and what to watch.

Some pages also show category-specific details next to the score (for example room clearance on furniture, or runtime on cordless tools). Those details help you decide. They are not the whole score.

The House Staples Standard

Our curation focuses on clarity and product quality rather than trend-driven hype or incomplete catalog copy.

Here is how we decide what we recommend.

  1. 01. The claim has to hold up

We start with what the product says it does, then check capacity, materials, and construction against that claim. Vague marketing without measurable details does not clear the bar.

  2. 02. Price is not the ranking

Budget and premium products can both make a recommendation. What matters is whether the product is built for what it promises, and whether we have enough information to judge.

  3. 03. Built for real homes

We favor clear capacities, materials, and ownership details over products that only look good in photos. If key limits are missing, that hurts the score.

  4. 04. Clarity over fluff

Plain measurements and ratings beat incomplete “premium” language. If we cannot compare two products on the same facts, at least one of them does not belong in our recommendations.
